Bold and beyond interview

My name is Derek White, a portraiture focused photographer based in San Diego. Currently my specific niche focuses on editorial, glamour, and beauty styles of portraits. As time goes on I want to shift into a more meaningful form of photography that will allow people to draw a story and a series of emotions for themselves based on what they see.

As I’ve continued to work with Miss Katherine Dodge our rapport as professionals has only grown. She’s the model that I enjoy working with the most because her intuition, talent and critical creativity is top notch. Her ability to snap into character, bounce around ideas with mine, and be incredibly creative on a moments notice is monumentally helpful. We started off with more of the

boudoir and swimsuit style of photography about 3 years ago. Since then, we’ve been wanting to shift gears and create work that has more of an impact with combining the sex appeal and feminine allure of a woman without focusing too much on the body. We wanted to make it more so that it’s her essence of femininity that is a strength.

I asked her to write something for this article so she could also be involved in the process I wanted to forward some of her words here: “when people look at the work I’ve done, I want them to feel a sense of shock that comes with uniqueness. I want what I do to stand out and be remembered and ignite inspiration.” -Katherine Dodge (@Katiesd23)

Another member of my team that is critical to our projects success is Anna Nguyen (Anna.nguyen_retoucher). Her skillset and quality of work is the best I’ve ever seen. She is a consummate professional in every possible way. I truly wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t give her the credit she deserves in this project and uplifted her for her contribution to our success. Making sure that my team gets as much credit as I do is an absolute must and I would encourage any and all photographers that may be reading to connect with her.

In the future I would live for my photography to inspire creativity and provoke thoughtfulness in others. And I understand if that’s what I want to do then I’ll have to continue to grow and start to step out of my comfort zone. Provide work that’s a little more creative and personal to others. I would also like to show my appreciation to Miss Jenisa Alico and Chief Editor Natalie for this incredible opportunity.
