INTERVIEW

PRINCESS NJOKU

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you started your modeling career?

"I’m Princess Njoku—a 5'11" professional runway and editorial model, digital creator, and writer based in Houston, Texas. My modeling career took off through high-fashion runways and editorial features, leading me to walk in New York Fashion Week (NYFW) for designer Thinkaboutit, Washington DC Fashion Week (DCFW) for Jah Kente International, and high-profile charity galas like the MGM Fundraiser for Sex Trafficking Awareness. Beyond the runway, I'm a writer dropping weekly commentary columns on Medium with a sharp, Gossip Girl-esque editorial flair. Academically, I’m wrapping up my Master’s in Strategic Communications and am on track to pursue my PhD at Rice University next fall."

Was there a defining moment that made you realize modeling was your true passion?

"The defining moment was walking the runway at NYFW and seeing my work captured by global media outlets and featured in international publications like Malvie, Vanguard, and Off Town Magazine. Stepping into the spotlight, commanding the room with posture and presence, and seeing how a single look tells a whole story made me realize modeling wasn't just a passion—it was my natural element."

Have you faced any challenges in the modeling industry? If so, how did you overcome them?

"Navigating the noise, copycats, and superficiality of the industry is always a challenge. In a space where everyone wants to craft an image, staying grounded in real credentials, high-caliber bookings, and professional boundaries is crucial. I overcome challenges by staying completely focused on my craft, keeping my standards high, and letting my portfolio and published work do all the talking."

How would you describe your modeling style?

"Fearless, statuesque, and magnetic. Whether I'm walking high-fashion runway shows or shooting editorial concepts, I bring a command of the frame that is polished and unforgettable. My personal style blends high fashion, bold silhouettes, and an undeniable 'main character' energy."

What role do you think storytelling plays in modeling?

"Storytelling is everything. Because I’m a writer who publishes weekly columns, I bring a heavy narrative mindset to every shoot. A model is the emotional bridge between the designer, the photographer, and the audience. Every pose, gaze, and movement has to tell a story—chic, witty, and intriguing."

What are your biggest career goals for the future?

"My immediate goals include gracing cover features for top-tier fashion publications, expanding my brand ambassadorships, and continuing to merge my high-fashion modeling career with my academic pursuits as I prepare for my PhD program at Rice University next fall."

What advice would you give to aspiring models looking to break into the industry?

"Build real substance over temporary social media noise. Study your angles, practice your walk, invest in legitimate editorial shoots, and protect your peace. Real credentials and professional consistency will always outshine temporary internet hype."
