From Grief to a New Beginning
I'm still at the very beginning of my modeling career, which makes every experience feel like the first page of an entirely new chapter.
For many years, my world looked very different. I taught Russian to international students at university, and alongside teaching, I wrote short stories about the quiet poetry of everyday life. Writing has always been my way of preserving beauty—the kind that often goes unnoticed.
As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming an actress. Modeling never crossed my mind. It simply wasn't part of the story I imagined for myself.
Then life rewrote that story.
My only son died following a car accident.
There are moments when grief becomes so immense that it feels physical. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't imagine a future. I lost an enormous amount of weight, but more importantly, I lost the woman I had once been.
It was my friends who refused to let me disappear.
*"You have to live,"* they kept telling me. *"Live for yourself, and live for your son. He's watching over you. Give him something to be proud of. Begin again. You're beautiful—why don't you try modeling?"*
I thought they were completely mad.
*A model? Me? I'm not six feet tall. I'm not twenty years old.*
Then, for my birthday, one of my closest friends gave me a gift that would quietly change my life forever—a professional photo shoot.
When the photographs came back, people didn't simply compliment them. They said, "This is art."
Again and again, I heard the same words:
"You should be a model."
HAVE YOU FACED CHALLENGES IN THE MODELING INDUSTRY?
Naturally.
Every meaningful journey comes with obstacles, and I don't see them as barriers—I see them as part of becoming.
Life prepared me for resilience long before modeling ever did.
My mother passed away when I was only six years old, and my father raised me on his own. He loved hunting and fishing, and I often accompanied him into nature.
He had a phrase he repeated throughout my childhood:
*"You're strong—you've eaten bear meat."*
I don't actually remember eating bear meat.
But I remember believing him.
Those words became part of who I am.
Whenever life becomes difficult, I still hear my father's voice reminding me that I am stronger than I think.
Perhaps that's why I never fear starting over.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
I want to continue growing as a model.
And perhaps, one day, fulfill the dream that has lived inside me since childhood.
Acting still calls to me.
And for the first time in many years, I truly believe I have the courage to answer.
WHICH FASHION HOUSES WOULD YOU MOST LOVE TO WORK WITH?
Dior.
Chanel.
Dreams should never be modest.
FINALLY, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO WOMEN WHO MAY BE AFRAID TO BEGIN AGAINT?
Never allow anyone—not society, not age, not fear—to decide when your story is over.
Dream boldly.
Work relentlessly.
Trust life, even after it has broken your heart.
Because sometimes the most beautiful chapter is the one you never saw coming.
Looking back now, I don't believe modeling found me by accident. It found me when I needed a reason to live again.
The thought that my son might still be watching over me—that somewhere, somehow, he could still be proud of me—became one of my greatest sources of strength.
I wasn't trying to become younger.
I was trying to become alive again.
Today, my purpose reaches beyond myself. I want women to know that life does not end at fifty. Reinvention has no expiration date. Beauty has no age limit. Passion does not disappear simply because society expects it to.
Age has never fascinated me.
Character does.
Curiosity does.
Resilience does.
Those are the qualities that make a woman unforgettable.
WHICH PHOTOSHOOTS EXCITE YOU THE MOST?
Without question, editorial shoots with a theatrical spirit.
Those are the moments when fashion becomes storytelling.
Every costume, every gesture, every expression allows me to step into another world. In those moments I don't simply feel like a model.
I feel like the actress I always dreamed of becoming.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MODELING STYLE?
Authenticity.
For me, modeling isn't about striking the perfect pose.
It's about living the moment so completely that the camera simply witnesses it.
Every person carries something beautifully unique within them.
Real elegance begins the moment you're brave enough to reveal it.
EDITORIAL, COMMERCIAL OR RUNWAY?
I genuinely love them all because each allows me to express a different part of myself.
The first time I walked a runway, something extraordinary happened.
Instead of feeling nervous, I felt an overwhelming sense of recognition.
As though I had finally arrived somewhere I was always meant to be.
Like coming home after years away.
And, yes, —I also believe financial independence is beautiful.
There is something profoundly elegant about standing on your own feet, creating your own opportunities, and writing your own future.
HOW IMPORTANT IS A MODEL'S PERSONAL STORY?
I think it is essential.
Fashion may begin with appearance, but it is sustained by personality.
A memorable model is never just a beautiful face.
She is presence.
She is discipline.
She is intelligence.
She is resilience.
People may first notice beauty.
They remember character.
WHO INSPIRES YOU CREATIVELY?
Natalia Vodianova.
Not only because of her extraordinary beauty, but because of her remarkable strength, dignity and determination.
As for photographers and designers, I admire anyone capable of transforming imagination into something tangible.
Fashion is one of the purest forms of visual storytelling.
As a writer, I'm endlessly fascinated by the way artists reveal themselves through their work. Creativity always tells the truth about its creator.
HOW DO YOU CONTINUE EVOLVING?
How do you continue evolving?
By never allowing myself to stop learning.
There is a Russian saying I have always loved:
*"Live for a lifetime, learn for a lifetime."*
To me, those words contain a philosophy.
The day we stop growing is the day something inside us quietly
begins to disappear.
Curiosity keeps us alive.
